Hermantown’s River Freeman signs with Minnesota Wilderness

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League announced they have offered a tender to Hermantown Hawks High School senior River Freeman.

In 62 games with the Hawks, Freeman scored 35 goals and 41 assists for a total of 76 points.

The senior forward also scored the overtime winner in the semifinals of the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament in March, advancing his team to the finals where they would come up short against St. Cloud Cathedral.

A ‘tender’ in junior hockey is a contract with the team where the organization owns the player rights and that player cannot participate in the NAHL draft. This is done in situations where the team wants the player on their team now, rather than waiting and hoping they select him in the upcoming draft.

The Wilderness made the NAHL playoffs this past season, where they lost to the Anchorage Wolverines in four games in the opening round.
