Former Michigan star Darius Morris dies at age 33

Former Michigan star Darius Morris has died, the program confirmed Saturday afternoon. Morris was 33 years old.

According to TMZ SportsMorris’ body was discovered Thursday in the Los Angeles area. No details are known about his death at this time.

In addition to Michigan remembering Morris on social media, former head coach John Beilein recognized Morris as a leader during his tenure with the Wolverines.

“Saddened to hear of the passing of former Wolverine Darius Morris. In 2010-2011, Darius was our starting point guard,” Beilein wrote on social media. “He was a leader in that program-changing 21-win season that laid the foundation for Michigan’s next decade of success.

“RIP DMo and condolences to the Morris family.”

During Morris’ second season with the Wolverines, he averaged 15 points, 6.7 assists and 1 steal while shooting 48.9% from the floor. He scored 17 points with 8 assists in a road win over Michigan State as the Wolverines went 2-0 against their in-state rivals that season.

Morris was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011 NBA Draft before playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, LA Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets during a four-season NBA career.
