Lane closures on I-57 in Marion County will begin Monday

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that periodic pavement repairs on Interstate 57 will take place in much of Marion County beginning Monday, weather permitting.

The project runs from seven-tenths of a mile north of Illinois Route 161 to the Fayette County line. One lane will remain open throughout the project, which is expected to be completed by mid-June.

IDOT officials say motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert to changing conditions, obey all construction signs and refrain from using mobile devices when approaching and traveling through work zones.
